We spend our lives surrounded by living organisms, from those that are so microscopic in size and scale that they can’t be seen by the natural eye to others that are so massive that they can be hard to even comprehend. The field of biology is the study of those living organisms, including things like their physical structure, physiological mechanisms, chemical and molecular interactions, and even how they came to exist in the first place and how they’ve evolved over time. The Bachelor of Science degree in Biology is more oriented toward science and math courses, with fewer General Education requirements. The Bachelor of Science degree allows students to pursue a typical liberal arts education while still receiving excellent training in biology.

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry prepares students for careers as professional chemists and serves as a foundation for careers in other fields such as biology and medicine. The curriculum offers a thorough fundamental knowledge of the major fields of chemistry, covering the general areas of inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, plus many more specialized courses including analytical, nuclear, and biophysical chemistry and chemical biology. Students gain laboratory experience in inorganic and organic synthesis, analytical methods, physical chemical measurements, spectroscopy, biochemical engineering, and chemical methods in nuclear technology.

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics allows students to experience a broad range of mathematical topics, while gaining a depth of expertise in certain areas. The BS Mathematics curriculum emphasizes computing and mathematical modeling because these two areas give our students a competitive advantage when beginning their careers. Mathematics students often are placed in fields related to math, such as computer science, economics and finance.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Physics is traditionally taken by students interested in a career in physics research in government or industry, or in college- and university-level teaching and research. The courses taken by our students provide a comprehensive foundation in physics. Students will learn introductory mechanics and electromagnetism courses include both lecture and laboratory components and advanced classical mechanics, and computational methods in physics, as well as laboratory courses in electronics and instrumentation. Students will also learn about quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics/thermodynamics, and advanced electricity and magnetism.
