 HIPDET UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE

School of Law

HIPDET School of Law offers a range of programs to fit your career ambitions and schedule. Most law schools share a common first-year approach to educating lawyers, with much more variation in the second and third years, such as opportunities for specialized programs, judicial clerkships, legal externships, participation in clinical programs and moot court, and involvement with public interest and governmental agencies.  Law school can be an intense, competitive environment–but the rewards are considerable.

Dean:
Dr. Enow Godwill Ebai

Certificate in Legal Assistant

Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies

As part of our commitment to our community of Cameroon and the world, the School of Law offers certificate degree programs which can be offered to anyone with a desire to learn.  We believe in open access to anyone with a willingness to learn.  Our certificate programs are offered through the School of Vocational Training and administred by the the School of Law.

Our 30-credit Certificate degree in Legal Assistant is designed for anyone wishing to pursue a challenging career in life.  This program prepares the graduate with high levels of organizational skills as well as knowledge and competence in legal concepts for corporations or law firms. While lawyers assume ultimate responsibility for legal work, Legal Assistants continue to assume a growing range of tasks in legal offices and corporations.

Paralegals, assist lawyers, barristers, and advocates in a wide range of activities. Lawyers remain responsible for paralegals’ work (in general, paralegals may not themselves give legal advice, set fees or represent clients in court). In the litigation area, for example, paralegals may interview prospective clients, research the law, prepare court documents and assist at trials. Paralegals who work on corporate legal matters may prepare contracts, maintain records and ensure that a corporation has complied with various statutes and government regulations.
